On our way home from camping in Algonquin Park, we got a flat tire and CAA informed us that we would have to stay in a motel until the Auto service opened in the morning. After calling Liz, the hotel owner, she gracious offered to pick us up from the service station and drive us, and all our stuff, to the hotel. She even upgraded our room when a bigger room became available at no extra cost, the only “condition” was a request to walk her adorable puppy Honey, which we happily agreed! The room was spotless and beds were very comfortable. But the customer service alone would be reason enough to return. They also have a beautiful patio restaurant with lovely drinks and dessert. Highly recommend!

The Balmoral hotel has a long and colorful history. The present innkeeper, Liz truly unde the art of making you feel like a very welco.e guest. Her personal attention at check in set the stage to set this apart from a place where you hand cash over to a large operate entity in exchange for somewhere to sleep. Liz take you stay personally. There is a very nice restaurant on the main level. To get to the rooms you need to be able to climb the stairs. There is not much counter space in the bathroom, a small table in there could help that. Otherwise a great stay.

I recently stayed at the Balmoral Hotel and had an amazing experience. The service was exceptional, and Liz was incredibly kind, attentive and went out of her way to help us. She truly made our stay special. The room was spotless and very comfortable. The food was also delicious. I can't say enough nice things about Liz—she was fantastic. I highly recommend the Balmoral Hotel!

I was driving late at night and ran out of gas while all stations were closed. I walked in at midnight and was warmly welcomed into what seems like an old western movie on the main floor. Nice old building with character. The recently refurbished rooms are upstairs a big wooden staircase. I was thrilled with the room. Clean, fresh, comfortable. Staff was incredible- friendly, helpful. Brought me a toothbrush and paste. Gave me a room closest to my trailer where my horse had to stay for the night.

I had a lovely experience here. I was warmly welcomed by Liz even though my time of arrival is late. The room is clean and spacious. It’s hard to believe a hotel established in 1890s can be such well maintained. The hotel is close to restaurants so I don’t need to worry of DUI.

Stopped by to grab a bite before heading home....very pleasantly surprised! 1) The owner personally served us...we even got to play with her dog, Honey. 2) We all ended up choosing the chicken Shnizel sandwich and fries. The slaw on the sandwich was great, the chicken perfectly cooked and the fries were... Fantastic. 3) It was a great evening to be on the patio... Very friendly and comfortable! Great stop whether you're driving through or vacationing in the area

Clean rooms, free coffee bar down the hall, decent prices, super comfy beds and clean linen. Only complaint is the hallway carpet needs to be replaced, and our rooms had no smoke detectors which we probably wouldn’t have noticed except that in the guest information book it details that this historical building has suffered from two severe fires already..

We came across this establishment when we realized on our way back from Algonquin that our car's transmission was shot. If like us, you discover yourself to be unexpectedly in the area - I highly recommend going here. Especially if you are a young woman who finds yourself stranded in the area, Liz will be clear about what she is able to provide and what options she is aware of, without taking advantage of your situation. Liz who owns the hotel was really supportive with helping us brainstorm next steps. We’re very fortunate to have been able to access the hotel and restaurant as many places in this region close around 4 pm. After many attempts at problem solving we ended up getting the car towed to north Toronto, and accepting a ride with Liz to Oshawa to the Go station. Liz is well connected in the community of Barry’s Bay which means she is committed to the value of service she provides, and understands her reputation and those of other local businesses are dependent upon fair and decent practices. As a visibly queer couple sometimes accessing services in more rural areas can be awkward - this wasn’t an issue and felt really chill. Her dog Honey is such a sweetie pie, find a big stick and she'll be your best friend. Balmoral Hotel was very clean with cute decor. Our room, #7, had a mini fridge, full bathroom and a king bed. The mattress has a proper protector on it (frightening how many places do not have these installed). The bedside tables had usb ports for ease of charging. Tv with Roku, although we were too tired to turn it on. Also a ceiling fan! Sometimes it’s the simple things that really make a space comfortable. There’s a coffee and tea bar available for all guests. Highly recommend this hotel, thanks Liz!!

I can't review the rooms because we didn't stay here. However we did dine here twice. It was excellent and well worth the money. I'd rate it as the best in Barry's Bay and one of the 2 best in the area. We'll be back next year!
